This floating house sits at ponds edge, its red roof can be spotted through the trees from the main residence and its fanciful shape integrates landscape & architecture. It is inspired by the swedish lusthus, an ode to summer days and the pleasure of sitting in a small protected space surrounded by nature. The Owners’ nordic heritage is expressed in the rough cut natural stained cedar exterior & red stained cedar swoop roof topped with gables & capped with a quatrefoil cut out in the cupola, a repetition of a detail seen throughout the architecture on site. A compass rose is embedded in the floor & interior plaques identify each of the 4 seasons. The plaque over the door is a nod to the Owners admiration of all things Tolkien, i it welcomes one to the house of 4 seasons in elfish: “Loacastaron Canta Mar”
