Alleghany cabin

A stacked wall of glass brings the outdoors in and allows for an open living kitchen and dining room concept. The 1 way vaulted roof soars and then snugs down at the back of plan. When we create this contrast within a home of rooms of dramatically different scale and quality , it provides what the soul needs; the combination of shelter in an intimate scale as well as the invigoration and energy jolt of shared space as a stage for life to enfold. Beneath the lower area of shed roof are sensibly scaled bedrooms and bath for a young family. This house has no basement , instead featuring polished heated concrete floors, it is a cost effective solution for a 2nd home so that funds can be spent on energy efficient glass walls and handsome timber beams and wood ceiling which serve to ” warm” up the interior and provide a natural organic energy which contrasts with the white walls and simple palette. Now more than ever we realize that access to daylight and views of nature support our well being, hence why “cabins”have always been a tradition. This new interpretation of the ” cabin” is as much about sky and light as it is about woods and water.
