Heart & history
When your client has history of a place , it is important for the design professional to play a supporting role in their vision. This rambling disjointed building was a yoga studio and multiple apartments. Our client had been a class participant and resident of one of the apartments. When she & her partner became the new owners, they needed an architect to put their “dream” ideas on paper and assure that structural obstacles were removed. On the exterior we simplified and smoothed over with stucco to unify the “added onto construct” we added much needed porches, an entrance and overhangs to better transition and allow one to experience the landscape which was an important part of the design.
Touches of wood by way of beams and a reorganization of the windows & doors blur the inside and outside. Ceilings were lifted up and walls came out… clean sweeping stairs now connect parts of the 2nd floor that were cut off from the main floor. The interiors came to life with the Owner’s design sense and yoga has returned bringing the heart to the home.
